Networking with professionals is a scary but rewarding task when you want to get your name out in the industry. Once established, you begin to wonder if seeking a mentor is a good idea. Having a mentor can provide benefits such as opportunities, promotions, raises, and engage with people in their network. The following advice is what I share with my mentees about my personal experience.
Planning for a career
Having a plan on how you plan to pursue your career is crucial, especially if that career is something you want to do for the rest of your life. However, not everything is going to be a straight and narrow path. For example, I had to work several jobs to take care of myself and family, I volunteered for eight years, and I want to construct my passion for becoming a motivational speaker. Even though I have a lot of things on my plate, I always stay motivated because I know what I want to accomplish in my life.
Encourage innovated ideas
It is essential to be open to innovative ideas because you get the opportunity to grow personally and professionally. In the business world, you have to be comfortable trying new things to be able to grow, and the only way to grow is to be open to trying new things.
Having your style is a great way to be able to leave an impression on new people you meet, it allows you to express who you are, and it improves self-image and confidence. For example, my style is feeling joy and happiness because the people I speak with feel the same way and become more open to me.
Keeping your feelings separate from decisions making
Keeping your feelings separate from decision making is something everyone must do because you become more independent when making important decisions. Everyone has good and bad days, but if you are having a bad day and are trying to decide, it’s best to make that decision when you are in a better mood.
